Confidentiality - It's the Law
Colorado library patrons have the legal right to privacy in their use of the library. Under Colorado law (CRS-24-90-119) the confidentiality of your library record is protected.
According to that state law and Jefferson County Public Library policy, staff members may not release information about a cardholder's record or use of the library to anyone other than the cardholder except by court order or written permission from the cardholder.
Many family members loan cards to each other. We are allowed to give out information about your card only to you and to no one else. However, if a family member or friend wishes to pay charges owed on your card, we may tell them the amount and take payment.
If you borrow material from other Colorado libraries and do not return it, Jefferson County Public Library may assist the lending library by providing information from your patron record.
