Keep Your New Year's Resolutions on Track!

by:
Rebecca

It's the first Monday of the new year; the celebrations are over and most of us are back to work. This is when our New Year's Resolutions can start to slip.

Whether your goals are to have more fun with friends and family, get fit, get out of debt, learn something new or get more involved in your community, we can help!

Here's a sampling of resources available to help you stay focused!

  • Get out of debt: One of my favorite resources in this category is Your Money or Your Life, by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. But that's just my opinion. We have lots of other resources to choose from. And if your goal is to learn more about investing and finances. we have plenty of online resources available as well.
  • Learn something new: Nearly everything we do is designed to help you find information to spark your curiosity and explore new ideas. From aardvarks to zephyrs, chances are, we have resources to help you expand your horizons.
  • Get more involved in your community: We're always on the look out for volunteers! Whether you'd like to help with programs, shelving books or working behind the scenes, we'll work hard to find a perfect spot for you.

Don't let those resolutions evaporate in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Come to the Library and keep your 2015 goals on track!

Colorado Gives Day Is Coming

by:
Rebecca

Tomorrow is Colorado Gives Day. Folks from all over the state will be donating to their favorite charities in one, big giving extravaganza. If you're planning to participate, please remember the Jefferson County Library Foundation. They're raising money to support Library programs that promote early literacy, programs like our Traveling Children's Library and Summer Reading program.

Here at the Library, we work to raise the next generation of readers in Jefferson County. The Foundation helps us to put books in the hands of children who might not otherwise have a book of their own.

When you think of Colorado Gives Day tomorrow, think of donating to the Library Foundation.

Kids and Books = Bliss

by:
Natalie, Jefferson County Library Foundation

Remember the first book that knocked your socks off?

For me, it was To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. I remember taking it off my parents' bookshelf one rainy afternoon when I had no way to get to the mall. I cracked it open because I was bored and there was nothing better to do. And then, something magical happened.

For the next few days, I couldn't put it down. I was transported from my little circle of teenage angst and self-involvement to a world of wonder and possibility. I was introduced to the major themes: social injustice, human frailty, racial tension, and the presence of goodness in unexpected places. I was floored by the wisdom of Atticus Finch and envious of the pluck and courage of Scout and Jem.

The book inspired me and made me want to be a better person.

Here at the Jefferson County Library Foundation, we'd like to give that same sense of wonder to every child in Jefferson County. To that end, we work hard to put books into the hands of children through Library programs such as the Traveling Children's Library and  the Summer Reading Program.

If you remember being awed and humbled by reading a book, won't you share the magic? Won't you donate to our campaign?
