Help Us Out with the Golden Remodel Design

by:
Bethany

Missed out on the Open House at the Golden Library regarding our upcoming remodel, but still want to share your thoughts? Not to worry, you still have a chance to give your input on what'd you'd like to see from us...and what you don't want to see. We're looking to the community to tell us about the library services you value, and to help define the look and feel of the remodel design.

You can still take our survey through the City's Golden Vision Community Forum. You'll need to create an account, but it's as easy as 1-2-3. This networking tool will give you the opportunity to weigh in on the Golden Library Remodel, as well as other community projects, and to hear what others are thinking.

Thanks for your input - we're excited to see what the community has to say! We will be hosting a design feedback session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 6 to get your thoughts on design options.

Sign Up Now for Summer Reading Club

by:
Bethany

Registration for our annual Summer Reading Club is underway for kids, teens and adults!

Summer Reading Club runs from June 1-July 31, and fosters literacy and learning over the summer months while children are not in school. It's a great way for parents to take an active role in their child’s development or just have some fun themselves.

As part of the program, the Library will offer a game card format for participants to record their progress. The game card offers a fun and easy way to log activities, while you explore the Library’s collection, services and resources. As you complete game card activities, you can win prizes!

  • Kids and teens who complete the first level of activities will receive a free book (compliments of the Jefferson County Library Foundation) and be entered to win a Kindle Fire (or a LeapPad tablet for those ages 0-5).
  • Kids and teens who complete additional pieces of the game card can earn additional rewards and coupons, including free admission to Lakeside Amusement Park.
  • Adults who complete their game card receive a coupon for free book from any of the Library Foundation used book sales, including used book sale areas in the libraries. They will also be entered to win a Kindle Fire.

Don't miss out, the fun starts June 1!

Great Gardening Techniques

by:
Bethany

Ah spring...warm weather, buds on the trees, tulips sprouting...oh no, it's already time to get the gardens ready?!?!

That's usually how my spring goes. If you go from zero to panic like me, you might want to head over to the Golden Library in the next couple of weeks. We've got a CSU-trained Master Gardener who will be conducting two workshops that will help out all those who aspire to have a green thumb.

The first will focus on picking the best plants for transplanting and proper techniques, and the second will be all about creating fabulous container gardens.

There will be time at the end of both sessions for questions too!

Small Businesses & the Affordable Care Act

by:
Bethany

One struggle many small business owners have is determining if they can provide health insurance for their employees. Of course, everyone wants to, but it's not always possible. Luckily, there's an option that you may not know about.

The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace makes it possible for small businesses to provide qualified health plans to their employees under the Affordable Care Act. This year, the SHOP Marketplace is open to employers with 50 or fewer full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). You may also qualify for tax credits if you use SHOP.

A representative from The Small Business Majority, a national nonprofit, will be here to discuss the law, its provisions and how you may be able to benefit. Bring your questions!

Hear 100 Years of One Woman's Life

by:
Bethany

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live 100 years and what stories you'd like to share with others if you did? Imagine all you'd witness! You can get a firsthand account of one woman's 100-years of life at the Wheat Ridge Library's Thrusday Morning Book Group this month.

Author Rosemary Rawson will discusses her book Dark Bread and Dancing – The Diaries of Sue Rawson

Rosemary's mother, Sue, was born when Teddy Roosevelt was President. Sue lived 100 years and much of it she recorded in ordinary spiral notebooks - the minutia of her days and thoughts – the price of gas, what she thought of The Feminine Mystique and almost always what they had for supper. Her daughter has distilled them down to a charming, personal, sometimes funny portrait of a life well lived. In many ways Sue's life is unremarkable. In others it is the story of every woman who evolved through the amazing history of the 20th Century.

9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20
Wheat Ridge Library

Book discussion starts before library opening. First time participants please call 303-235-5275 for instructions on entering library.
