Hoopla Update

Our new digital download service, Hoopla, has been wildly successful, surpassing all of our expectations. Nearly 2,000 patrons have signed up to access this collection, and they have checked out 4,469 items -- all in the first month!

Unfortunately, the unexpected high demand is putting stress on our budget. Due to financial constraints, we're going to have to limit the number of downloads we allow on any given day.

Hoopla charges the library each time a patron checks out an item. The library budgets a given amount to Hoopla every day. Once that limit is reached no one can check out anything from Hoopla until the next “day” starts, which is at 5 p.m.

If you try to download an item after we've reached our daily limit, you'll receive the following message from Hoopla: "Our daily limit has been reached. Please continue to browse, add to favorites, and come back tomorrow."

We apologize for the inconvenience, but be patient! You should be able to download after 5 p.m., when the next new "day" begins.

The Art of Trash

Take recycling to a whole new level! Learn to make simple, metal sculptures from used pop cans. You can make cats, dogs, reindeer, snakes, owls, and other objects.  Learn tips for handling the metal using patterns provided, and then, with a few sculptures under your belt, you'll be able to make your own metal menagerie at home. For children ages 10-14.

This program is limited to the first 12 participants.

Music CDs Checkout: Short and Sweet

Rebecca Winning

More tunes for everyone! Effective Feb. 1, music CDs will checkout for seven days. This brings our checkout period into better alignment with patron needs and industry best practices -- and it gives everyone a better shot at their favorite tunes. Don't forget, you can download live music, too -- with our new Hoopla service!

I'm starving and if you think you can just waltz in here and grab my Eggo when I have been waiting so patiently for the toaster to pop...you've got another thing coming buddy!

What? This isn't about my Eggo?

You said LEGO? As in the building blocks?

Oh, well that makes more sense...

So, no Eggo's at the library? Just LEGO's at the library? That could be fun!

LEGO Club has made a huge splash at your local Jefferson County Library, offering monthly programs for both kids and teens. All you need is a little imagination and some elbow grease, and we'll provide the rest.

Now back to my Eggo...where'd I put the syrup?

Anngelica, Teen Submission

I never thought I would like the Hunger Games series at all! When my friend got me to watch for the first time, I fell in love with it right away! All the movies are great and I can't wait to see MockingJay when it comes out. I love all the actors and the story itself. I went to the last Hunger Games party, and enjoyed it a lot. I had many great expierences and met new people. I encourage any and everyone to go! It's a lot of fun! This year will be great too. Hope to see everyone there!

Getting Your Bike in Shape

If you're like me, you have a bicycle. That bike may or may not have been used a total of zero times in the past few years. Is your bicycle gathering dust in the garage too? If you have a bike that you've been wanting to pull out, but are afraid of the TLC it might need, we've got you covered. An instructor from Denver's Salvagetti Bicycle Workshop will teach you how to keep your bike running smoothly, how to change tires, and how to stay safe. This free class will give you the skills and confidence to make it to your destination and back. For ages 14 and up.
