Now Showing!

A fun family movie in theaters now:  Despicable Me 2 - Gru (Steve Carell) is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.  What a fun sequel to the first Despicable Me (2010) where Gru who claimed to be a criminal mastermind used a trio of orphan girls as pawns in a grand scheme.  Instead of villainous glory he finds their love is profoundly changing him for the better.  With the jokes flying (for adults, too), "Minions" running amuck and sharp graphics, kids find both of these movies so much fun!

There was a showing of Despicable Me at the Evergreen Library in July to a very enthusiastic crowd of young patrons.

Every third Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Evergreen Children’s staff presents a family movie in their series, Saturday at the Movies.  We serve popcorn and offer drinks while families watch movies on the big screen in the meeting room.
Here’s the lineup for the rest of the year:

August 17 – Cars, rated G

September 21 – Toy Story 3, rated G

October 19 – Hotel Transylvania, rated PG

November 16 – The Croods, rated PG

December 21 – Rise of the Guardians, rated PG

Journey to Evergreen Library and join them next month. Bring a pillow, a sense of humor and prepare to enjoy a couple of hours of sheer pleasure.  It is FREE of course, and you can obtain tickets in person or online one week in advance.

Today was our third LEGO Club and once again a huge crowd of LEGO fans showed up. Thank you to all the participants and parents. I see that LEGOS are becoming popular with the moms and dads who show up too. They just can't resist creating something alongside the kids. Good for them!! I am currently working on keeping this going for the whole year. I gave out fliers with possible times and days for LEGO Club during the school year. If you were not able to attend, but would like to fill one out, please see me at the Conifer Library.

Though widely respected sources have not confirmed it, July 15th is Cow Appreciation Day!  This may not be an official holiday like Christmas or Easter, but it’s still a great time to thank cows for all they do for us!

An important fact to know is that the term “cow” only refers to the female members of a group of “cattle,” which refers to both sexes.  Males are known as bulls or steers.  Cows are some of the most important farm animals around.  Their milk is a wonderful, healthy drink and is also used to make butter, cream, cheese, and ice cream.  We have them to thank for roast beef, steaks, veal, hamburgers, hot dogs, and more.  Leather, some medicines, soap, and glue are all made from parts of cows and bulls.  They also provide power by pulling plows, carts, and wagons. Here are some interesting facts about cattle and some books about them you can get from the library!

FACTS

-Cows and bulls chew their food two separate times to digest it!

-One cow will produce about 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.

-Cattle are very social and really like to hang out together. In fact, if a cow separates herself from the herd, she is likely sick, or about to give birth to a calf!

-Bulls and cows usually spend 10-12 hours per day lying down.

-These animals do not sweat and usually drink about 40 gallons of water per day. This is enough to fill a bathtub! They eat about 100 pounds of food every day too!

-Cows move their jaws about 40,000 times per day!

-Bulls cannot see the color red, therefore when matadors wave flags while bullfighting, it is the fluttering movement, not the hue that catches their attention.
