We Could All Use a Head Start

Fact: In Jefferson County, more than 10,000 children under the age of six are living in poverty, and only a fraction of these children are served by Head Start or other quality preschool programs. Our Start with a Story program delivers early literacy storytimes to at-risk children in licensed day care centers.

Christina, one of our Start With a Story volunteers, says that she volunteers because she knows how critical storytimes are for children, especially those who can’t get to the library and who may not have access to reading and books in the home. In fact, all three of her children attend library storytimes and have learned to love and value reading! Her wish,"I’d love to see every child in Jefferson County have access to the same positive experiences my children have.”
