Alter a Book Into a Work of Art

by:
Bethany

Sure, many books are considered works of art in a literary sense, but have you ever considered turning a book into something else? A sculpture, a painting, a frame, a collage? Something else perhaps? Now's your chance to unleash the creativity of your inner artist!

The Lakwood Library held an Altered Book Contest that ended June 3. Entries are on display at the library and a special ceremony will be held on June 5, when three winners will be announced. There will be a teen competition for ages 12-17 and an adult competition for those who are 18 and older.

And for the first time at the Spring Sale, the Friends Preview Night will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30 and is open to Friends members only. Join today or join at the door.

You'll be swimming in more than 100,000 books, CDs, DVDs, videos, audiobooks with prices ranging from 50 cents to $2.50 on most items. Sunday is Bag Day where for just $6 you can stuff as many items as you can fit in a grocery size bag

For more information or to volunteer, call 303-403-5075 or email friends@jeffcolibrary.org.

As always, proceeds benefit children and teen literacy programs at JCPL, including Summer Reading Club.

Author Janice McDermott to Visit Wheat Ridge

by:
Bethany

As part of the Wheat Ridge Library's monthly book discussion group, you're invited to join author Janice McDermott as she discusses her book What Would Your Father Say? My Journey to Hope and Light.

This memoir takes readers on a sometimes sad, often jubilant jaunt through her young years in a long-gone rural Iowa. Poverty, the death of her young father, and stints in an orphanage, a foster home and a convent all propel her to an adulthood where she finds peace—with herself and God.
