Tree Climbing for Grown-Ups

Who said just because you're an adult you need to stop climbing trees? Not us, that's for sure! In fact, we'll have Harv "Ponderosa" Teitelbaum here to show you how much fun you can still have up in the branches! Harv is the owner of Tree Climbing Colorado and is also a master instructor in recreational tree climbing. He will give you an introduction to this fun activity. Actual tree climbing will not be taking place at the class, but it will give you a great foundation on what to look for.

For ages 12 and up.

3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6
Lakewood Library

Author Marcia Hensley Comes to Lakewood

Back in the early 1900s, parts of Colorado, and other locations in the region, were still very much the Wild West. For many women, suffrage and other women's rights issues weren't high on the list of priorities. Instead, these women of the frontier seized the opportunity to become landowners. In her book Staking Her Claim: Women Homesteading the West, author Marcia Hensley shares stories from these women through letters and articles from that time.

Join us at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Lakewood Library to hear directly from the author about some of these amazing stories. Reservations are not required.

Planning for Your Senior's Future

Recently, I've watched as my grandparents' health has deteriorated and they have moved from their home of more than 40 years into a retirement community. The transition was hard for everyone – my grandparents, their children, and me. I'm now watching as the same thing is happening to my aunt and we struggle to do what is best for her – and for us.

As much as my family thought we had planned ahead and started conversations with our seniors early in the process, these transitions still happened after several crises had occurred – too late. What we learned is that you can never plan too far in advance and it's best to educate yourself and your seniors before a crisis occurs that forces a decision upon all of you.

Those of you caring for aging parents, or any senior adult, will benefit greatly from a workshop we are offering with "The Senior Expert" Karen Owen-Lee. She will cover legal and financial issues, crisis warning signs, making a family plan, and having the difficult, but necessary, conversations with your loved ones. The workshops will take place at several locations over the next month.
