Tea for Two at Wheat Ridge

Everybody loves a tea party! We invite kids who are five and older to bring their favorite grownup to an afternoon tea at the Wheat Ridge Library.

You don’t have to be royalty to enjoy a good tea party. Tea parties can be a fun way to introduce your children to table etiquette. Here are a few tea party “rules” I found in some of our children’s books.

  1. Always try to be clean and neat.
  2. Try to be fancy. A little dress up doesn’t hurt anyone.
  3. Try to eat daintily.
  4. Manners matter.

Whether you’re like Fancy Nancy or more like Tea Rex, tea parties can be a lot of fun. And, here’s a few reading suggestions for you to check out before, or after, your tea party.

4 p.m. Thursday, September 10
Wheat Ridge

Registration is required and is now open. Register.

More LEGOS at the Library

What's the latest things for kids and teens? LEGOs at the Library! These popular programs are now offered at eight Jefferson County Library locations, including Arvada, Belmar, Columbine, Conifer, Edgewater, Evergreen, Golden and Standley Lake. We provide the LEGOs® and the kids provide the energy and imagination. The end result? Fun and engaging practice in problem solving, design and building stuff.

From monthly meetings to individual events, it's likely we have a LEGO program to fit your needs. Times and locations.

Books. Everyone knows the library has them. Have you gone outside your comfort zone and tried all the other resources the library has to offer? We invite you to get Outside the Lines with us next week and try something new. We'll share how each day next week on Facebook and Twitter

Outside the Lines is a weeklong celebration, Sept. 14-20, demonstrating the creativity and innovation happening in libraries. Libraries across the country will be engaging with their communities in new and unexpected ways. Stay tuned for how you can participate.

Check Out an iPad Mini at Edgewater

The Edgewater Library now has iPad Minis available for kids and teens to check out for use in the library.

We started this service to support Jeffco Public Schools' IMPACT initiative. Last year, Jeffco Schools provided an iPad to students in five area schools (Lumberg Elementary, Molholm Elementary, Stevens K-4, Wheat Ridge 5-8, and Jefferson High School). Their goal was to not only provide access to technology, but to enhance the way the students learn.

Unfortunately, at the end of the school year, the students had to return the iPads, but they have been able to continue to use the technology at the library over the summer! Using the iPads boosts skills in math, science, technology, and reading, as well as improves social skills. It also allows parents an opportunity to get familiar with the devices their children are using at school.

The iPad Minis are available to check out for one hour at a time for use in the library. Head over and try one out today!
