Library Card Rules

The Basics
When you apply for a library card, you agree to return borrowed materials on time, pay overdue fees and assume responsibility for lost or damaged items.

Your library card is valid as long as you use it at least once every three years.

If your card is lost or stolen, call or stop by any Jefferson County Public Library location to inform a staff member. Please keep your contact information up to date in My Account.

Jefferson County library materials may be returned to any Jefferson County Library. Book drops are open 24 hours.

Lending Guidelines, Overdue Fees and Renewals
You may check out a total of 99 items, and have up to 40 holds on your Jefferson County Public Library card. You will be notified when your hold is available by email or phone.

Be sure your information in My Account is accurate so you get hold notifications.

All items accrue fines of .20 cents per day if they aren't returned by the due date.

The maximum total fine on a chldren's item is $2; the maximum fine on any other item is $4.20.

If an item is more than 21 days overdue a replacement fee will automatically be charged to your account. If the item is returned, the replacement fee will be waived, and the maximum fine of the item ($2 or $4.20) will apply instead.
