(Lakewood, Colo. – April 3, 2015) Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is partnering with One Book 4 Colorado to distribute free books to four-year olds from April 13-27. During the distribution period, families with four-year-old children living in Jefferson County may pick up a free book at any Jefferson County Public Library location. Books are available in both English and Spanish.
This year’s book title will be announced at a special storytime presented by Jefferson County Commissioner Don Rosier at 11:30 a.m. on April 13 at the Lakewood Library, at 20th and Miller in Lakewood. In addition, special One Book 4 Colorado celebrations will be taking place at all Jefferson County libraries during select library storytimes from April 13-27; residents may call 303-235-5275 for times and locations.
“Studies have shown that being read to as a child and having books in the home are the two most important indicators of future academic success,” said Barb Yeutter-Roig, manager, JCPL Kids and Families Team. “This is an exciting opportunity for the Library to promote early literacy skills by encouraging caregivers of young children to read to them and begin to build a home library.”
One Book 4 Colorado is the result of collaboration between Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia’s office, Colorado State Library, Jefferson County Public Library, Reach Out and Read Colorado, the Denver Preschool Program, the private sector, other public libraries, and the nonprofit and foundation communities.
