Jefferson County Public Library’s Summer Reading Club Sign-up Begins May 1

New Format Offers Multiple Opportunities for Expanded Learning, Fun and Rewards

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) announced today that sign up for its 2013 Summer Reading Club has begun. Kids, teens and adults can sign up online at jeffcolibrary.org/summerreading or at any JCPL location. Summer Reading Club runs from June 1 through July 31.

Participants will notice a new format for Summer Reading Club this year in the form of bingo cards to track progress. This change will continue to focus on reading, but will also encourage participants to explore the Library’s collection, services and resources. Once the first bingo line has been completed, kids and teens will receive a free book, compliments of the Jefferson County Library Foundation. Additional rewards and coupons can be earned by continuing to score bingos (up to four lines), including the chance for kids, teens and adults to win a Kindle.

“The Summer Reading Club has been a staple of Jefferson County Public Library for decades,” said Donna Walker, JPCL’s director of public services. “Over the years, it has expanded from solely enhancing the reading skills of students during the summer, to fostering a love of life-long learning for all ages.”

Children are invited to Dig into Reading this year with songs, stories, dinosaur fossil digs, and canyon critters (including a hybrid wolf and live reptiles). In addition to receiving a free book, kids who complete their first bingo line will receive an unlimited ride pass to Lakeside Amusement Park. Many of the programs will require tickets; check out the full schedule for details at jeffcolibrary.org/events.

Teens are invited Beneath the Surface to learn about unique foods, ghost hunting, steampunk accessories and the history of tattooing. In addition to receiving a free book, teens who complete their first bingo line will receive an unlimited ride pass to Lakeside Amusement Park, and those who complete two bingos will have the chance to attend a special Games Night on Aug. 9. A full schedule can be found at jeffcolibrary.org/events.

Not to be left out, adults can get into some Groundbreaking Reads themselves and be entered to win a Kindle. See jeffcolibrary.org/summerreading for additional information.

Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the Jefferson County Library Foundation and the Friends of the Jefferson County Public Library. Kindles are being offered compliments of the following local sponsors: EduCyber, Larkin & Associates, LLC, Noviscon Realty LLC/John C. Bodnar and Denver Tux. Other program partners include California Pizza Kitchen, Colorado Rapids, Del Taco, Lakeside Amusement Park, Pizza Doodle, and Westerra Credit Union.
