GO BACK TO SCHOOL WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
(Jefferson County, Colo. - Aug. 15, 2007) Sharpen those pencils, fill those backpacks and head back to school with Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL), where you can find endless possibilities for homework help, research and after school fun. A Jefferson County Public Library card is must-have for any school supply list.

Many JCPL locations offer programs and events geared for students. Beginning in September, the Golden Library offers Homework Help on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with tutors from the Colorado School of Mines lending their brain power to help elementary through high school age students.

"The volunteers are great people and truly astounding," said Kevin Lui, a student who has used the mentoring service in the past. "Being able to tutor other students while working on their own studies is truly remarkable.”

Aside from its print collection, JCPL offers free wireless Internet access, computers for public use, study rooms and expert staff members who can help students with sources for any research project. The Library's web site, http://jefferson.lib.co.us, offers access to 68 subscription databases available for free to anyone with a Jefferson County library card. These include Academic Search Premier, Gale Virtual Reference Library, Kids InfoBits and a myriad of others.

Students with burning questions can also access Ask a Librarian, where one can submit questions 24 hours a day and receive an answer within two business days from a librarian via e-mail. Or, people can submit questions to AskColorado, a free online information service provided by Colorado libraries. This is for all Colorado students and residents; questions can be submitted 24 hours a day and they will be answered by a librarian in real time.

If you're looking for some fun between your history report and your algebra exam, JCPL offers more than 1.2 million items, including audio books, CDs, DVDs and more. Teens gather monthly at Columbine Library for its Wednesday Teen Book Group, and younger readers get together at Lakewood Library for its Young Reader's Fun Club.

For a little adventure, the Library's children's literacy program, Knott's Kids, offers interactive programs throughout the year. Through September, each of our libraries is hosting Titanic Through Time, where kids can act as Titanic time travelers. This program is presented in collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science's exhibition Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition June 22, 2007 - Jan. 6, 2008. Future Knott’s Kids adventures include Dinosaur Discovery Day on Sept. 1, 2007 at Dinosaur Ridge and a program for El Dia de los Muertos.

As area students and parents make sure they are fully equipped for a new school year, be sure to stop by any JCPL library and sign up for a library card - the most important school supply of all.
